Our take on Modine for greenhouse applications Modine stands by their warranty which isn't the case for many heater manufacturers due to humidity typical of greenhouse environments. Don't get us wrong, there are other manufacturers that manufacture solid gas fired heaters, but none we've found that can beat the value of the Modine PTP series on price, and the PTC line for efficiency (93-97%) in relation to price. The 10-year heat exchanger warranty is hard to beat, and the polyester paint is corrosion resistant which does well in a greenhouse.
The PTP series features a stainless steel tubular heat exchanger which comes with a 10-year heat exchanger warranty. The PTP series is horizontally vented and offers good value considering the efficiency rating, durability, and warranty at this price. Installation Modine requires installation by a professional installer. Installing yourself is highly not recommended and will void your warranty.
BTU Primer Most manufacturers advertise a heaters input BTU which is the amount of fuel a heater consumes per hour. To get what matters, your output BTU, simply multiply your input BTU by your efficiency. In the case of the PTP 400, we multiply 400,000 x .80 (80%) which gives us an output of 320,000 BTU/hr.
Elevation lowers heater effectiveness. Above 2000ft elevation, for every 1000ft reduce your output rating by 4%. For example, the PTP 400 at 4000ft elevation would output 294,400 BTU/hr.
